Since 1991, linux has been an emblematic bone of free software. Its ‘kernel’ is the implementation of a multitude of distributions including ubuntu, red hat, fedora, opensuse or debian. These linux systems can therefore be present in the workplace environment.
The android mobile bone (80% of smartphones in the workplace) is however based on the linux kernel. And with the maturation of cloud computing technologies and uses, the linux bone has seen its adoption grow strongly. Linux or gnu/linux is a family of unix-style open source operating systems based on the linux kernel, created in 1991 by linus torvalds.
Numerous gnu/linux distributions have since come into existence and are an important vehicle for popularizing the free software movement. Although linux was previously developed for PC compatible computers, it has only ever equipped a very small part of personal computers.
But the linux kernel, whether or not accompanied by gnu solutions, is also used by other types of computer systems, including servers, mobiles, embedded systems or even supercomputers. The operating system for android mobiles, which uses the linux kernel rather than gnu, now equips 85% of touch tablets and smartphones2.

What exactly is Windows? When you turn on a computer, it starts. Windows appear, dishes appear, etc… What could be more natural? Windows to achieve this small miracle of technology, an operating system would have to be installed on the computer.
It is thanks to it and the programs that can be added to it that we will be able to work, play, surf and so on. Without the operating system, the computer is just a big useless box.
